Another new homeowner!

Last Friday, Desire and Odine celebrated closing on their new home! This is an incredible accomplishment for a family who arrived in Rochester just a few years ago after a harrowing journey from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Desire, Odine, and their then 5 children arrived in Brazil from the Congo in early 2019 and walked all the way from Brazil to the US border in Texas, covering thousands of miles including the notoriously dangerous Darién Gap in Panama.

The family, which has grown to nine since arriving in the US, has shown remarkable resilience in their journey to Rochester and their acclimation to this community. All have successfully obtained green cards and both parents have stable, well paying jobs, Odine at Amazon and Desire at Wegmans.

When the family approached us with hopes of buying a house, we were happy to help them with this process. We are incredibly grateful to Genesee Co-Op Federal Credit Union for their continued partnership and support of our clients. Their First-Time Homebuyer Program has helped folks like Desire and Odine solidify their place in the vibrant Northwest Rochester community. We are overjoyed for the family and so excited to see them continue to thrive from the sanctuary of their own home!
